Why you should test your well
Why test a well? I hope you have a strong stomach as reading this article is going to point out some very GOOD reasons to test your well. This is a service we provide at a home inspection if you choose to order it. Remember, as a private home owner it is your responsibility to make sure the water you and your family drink is safe, not the EPA’s!
Read what the CDC says about testing your well and what to look for.
What to look for?
When testing your well, you’ll want to look for a variety of water quality indicators. These indicators will tell you the presence and amount of materials in your water. This can include things like E.coli, pH levels, nitrates, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
When to have your water tested?
You should consider having your well tested when you have experienced problems in your area (flooding, land disturbances, nearby waste disposal sites), when there are known problems with well water in your area, and/or you notice a change in the water’s quality – taste, odor, color.
